With Cupid and the holiday of love right around the corner, classical ensembles and performances will be held throughout the month of February. The most notable of these masterpieces will be the celebration of Ludwig von Beethoven’s 250th birthday, which will be celebrated throughout 2020. Below is a breakdown of the performances all month long.
Romantic Rhapsodies with the Nashville Symphony
The breathtaking rhapsodies of Brahms, Bartók, and Enescu are brought to life by the Nashville symphony and soloist Jun Iwasaki. They will take the audience on a journey to Eastern Europe beginning in 20th century Romania, the inspiration for George Enescu’s two best known compositions: Romanian Rhapsodies I and II. Rhapsody No. 1 can be best described for its playful and whimsical tunes which elaborately build into a charming masterpiece. Rhapsody No. 2 is a sweeping and emotionally driven composition that perfectly balances the imagery and feeling of the previous rhapsody. In addition to the Enescu Rhapsodies, the Nashville Symphony will perform Rhapsodies I and 2 of Bela Bartók. Bartók dedicated each piece to two of his closest friends, Joseph Szigeti and Zoltán Székely. They showpiece the complex mastery of music in a twisting and multifaceted performance of virtuoso works for violin and orchestra. Brahm’s Symphony No. 3 will embody the Romantic style of the night’s performances with performance styles ranging from stormily thrilling composition to calming and thought-provoking harmonies.

Beethoven’s Birthday Bash with the Nashville Symphony
In honor of Beethoven’s 250th birthday, Nashville Symphony is performing Beethoven’s most awe-inspiring and impressive music the world has ever known. In the line-up is his Leonore Overture No. 3, Piano Concerto No.1, and Symphony No. 3 known as “Eroica.” To perform the famous Concerto, Irish pianist Barry Douglas joins the Nashville Symphony in Beethoven’s first published Concerto which formed his foundation to break the musical barriers of the 18th century in his later compositions. In contrast to his early composition of the Concerto No. 1, Beethoven’s bold Symphony No. 3 is identified as the shift from the Classical period of music composition to the Romantic era and is considered his most-celebrated masterpiece.
